Rendlesham Day Nursery

Rooms

Babies room - 0-2 years

We have room for 12 children in the baby room with a staff to child ratio of 1:3. The room is equipped with, a sofa where the staff give the babies their milk, a table for arts and crafts and a book corner for story time. The room has direct access onto the shady part of a secure garden.

We aim to get the children as involved and interested in as many activities as possible, ranging from water and sand play to construction. Each child can take their time and build their confidence and develop their five senses.

Attached to the baby room is asleep room. This is a quiet room with traditional wooden cots. There is also a milk room, where we prepare and store the children’s bottles and a nappy changing area so that our ratios are always intact.

We know how important continuity is for such young children and like to follow the babies routine from home. Along side this the baby rooms follow the 'Early Years Foudation Stage' to ensure that all children develop fully in each area of learning

Toddler Room - 2-3 years

The room caters for 12 children with a staff to child ratio of 1:4. The Toddler Room has slightly more structure than the baby room and allows the children to further develop their personalities. The children will start to get used to a routine and their time in the Toddler Room will prepare them for moving up to the Pre-school Room at the age of three.

We understand that at this age the children are learning to be individuals and show preferences. We believe it is important for the toddlers to be creative in a variety of ways. We offer various opportunities for painting, drawing, constructing models and using building blocks. We provide plenty of outside play, group and lone play.

We encourage the children to learn about the community and the world around them.

Toddler room has a home corner which changes to a variety of settings, ie doctors surgery, house, kitchen and office. A book corner for quiet play, in this area toddlers can look at books on their own or hear a story from a staff member. There are also sleeping mats so the children who are with us for the whole day are able to have rest, if they need to.

The Toddler Room follows the 'Early Years Foundation Stage' to ensure that all children develop fully in each area of learning. We also incorporate focus activities each week to develop a specific area of learning. The room has direct access onto the secure garden where they have a selection of toys and games with which to play and plenty of room to run around

Pre-school Room - 3-5 years

The Pre-school room caters for 16 children with a staff to child ratio of 1:8.

They follow the detailed curriculum guidelines set out by OFSTED. We ensure that these learning guidelines are presented in a fun and lively way. We feel that this provides the maximum enjoyment and benefit for the children.

These guidelines are called the'Early Years Foundation Stage'. They encourage children to develop fully in each area of learning. We understand that each child is different and the'Early Years Foundation Stage' is designed so that each child can develop at their own pace.

There are various activities on offer these include: sand and water tables, a creative area with a large range of arts and crafts and messy play , a role play area / home corner, a construction area, a quiet area for the children to relax, an IT area and access to the garden.

We ensure that the children are prepared for starting full-time school when they leave the nursery. With adult led activities - structured work including phonics, sounds, numbers, shapes and free play activities, means they should settle with more ease into the school routine. We offer government funded sessions for all 3-5 year olds.
